Neve Campbell feels like a "mother" next to her younger 'Scream 4' costars.

The 37-year-old Canadian actress - who starred in the first three films of the horror franchise - admits that when she returned to make the fourth installment she felt the age gap between her and fellow original cast mate Courteney Cox and the sequel's newcomers Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Those kids were five when the first 'Scream' came out, so I hope to God their parents weren't letting them watch it.

"Courteney and I just looked at each other and were like, 'We could be their mothers.' "

However, the brunette said she was impressed with her younger costars' work ethic and admitted she didn't have to help them when it came to shining in front of the camera.

She added: "They came in with so much enthusiasm for the project. People keep asking whether we had to show them the ropes, but they're professionals in their own right.

"They've all had long careers already, even at such young ages, and they did a great job."
