The 33-year-old musician lost his life in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday (24Dec15) after he was allegedly shot by thieves who targeted his car as he was driving home from a church service.

He was remembered at a tribute jam session featuring other well-known Detroit bassists, including Lady Gaga's bass player, Kern Brantley, in the city on Sunday night (27Dec15), and now Ne-Yo has reached out to the family via social media.

Ne-Yo posted a picture of Tolson on his Instagram.com page, and added, "Damn bro... Damn. To my man Anthony Tolson. Prayers to your family and prayers of safe passage to the other side. May you rest in peace."

Rapper Young Jeezy added in a message posted on Twitter.com, "Detroit lost a real one. It was an honor and pleasure working with you Anthony Tolson. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

A memorial fund has been sent up on Gofundme.com to raise money for Tolson's children, and the page had brought in more than $7,000 (£4,667) as WENN went to press.

Police in Detroit have issued an appeal for information in a bid to catch those responsible for the shooting.
