Nielsen said on Tuesday that it will delay release of primetime ratings until later today (Wednesday). It apologized but gave no explanation. It did release ratings for the nightly news programs, once again showing NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams ahead with 7.9 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer took second place with 7.3 million viewers, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley trailed with 5.5 million viewers. Nielsen also released the overall primetime averages for the week, showing CBS substantially in the lead with 11.3 million viewers and a 7.1 rating/11 share. ABC placed second with 8.2 million viewers and a 5.3/9. NBC was well behind with 7.3 million and a 4.6/7, edging out Fox with 7.1 million viewers and a 4.2/7.
