The NFL got a big preseason kickoff on NBC Sunday night, leading every half hour of primetime from 8:00-10:00 p.m. and scoring strongly in the 10:00 p.m. hour as well NBC averaged a 6.8 rating and an 11 share for the night with stronger numbers still among adults 18-49. CBS won the 7:00 p.m. hour with a repeat of 60 Minutes, while NBC produced a solid second-place 5.3/10 for a football-related Dateline in the same hour. CBS also beat football in the 10:00 p.m. hour with Without a Trace, which pulled a 6.4/11 to the game's 5.5/9. Critics gave the telecast high marks, saying that the production seemed smooth and the graphics clean -- almost as if it had been an ABC Monday Night Football telecast.
