Movie babe Natalie Imbruglia has hailed the hard working attitude of her fellow Australians - and cites that as the reason she's risen from a wilting singing career to a film star.

The brunette beauty - who co-stars with British comic Rowan Atkinson in new flick JOHNNY ENGLISH - believes Aussies need to work harder because they're tucked away in an extreme part of the world.

She says, "We (Australians) are fantastic. We are very ambitious and, perhaps because Australia is so far away, those of us that take on the challenge to break internationally take it seriously.

"And we have a lot of tenacity - we don't give up easily."
