Rapper Nas is still struggling with his bid to spend more time with his toddler son, but he insists his war of words with ex-wife Kelis is over.
The Milkshake singer gave birth to baby Knight months after the couple split in 2009 and Nas was ordered to pay his ex $55,000 (£34,375)-per-month in child and spousal support during a bitter divorce and custody battle.
He admits relations between his former wife and himself are still "not great", but he's keen to move on and spend more time with his son.
In a candid Complex magazine interview, the I Can hitmaker says, "That side is not great yet, but it's working toward being that way. She's a new mum. I'm busy and she's busy. (But) from what I see she's being a good mum, and it's working toward a great place.
"There was a time when I couldn't see him (Knight) at all. It was terrible when the divorce was fresh."
But Nas is convinced the feud between him and his ex is over, and he has finally recovered from the failure of his marriage: "There was a point where we were trying to hold on to a relationship that was finished... There were times I was thinking, 'Damn, I had this s**t all planned out and now I've failed.' That was hard on me, because I don't like to fail at anything.
"Accepting that I failed at this relationship - and it was public - messed me up. You ask yourself, 'How could that person be so cold?' And I'm sure she felt the same way about me. It was ugly."
But Nas insists he has no regrets about the four-year marriage, adding, "For the most part, I had a great time being married. It was amazing. She's an amazing woman."
And he claims many of the "bad tweets" friends and family members thought Kelis was aiming at him were meant for others.
He tells the publication, "She was angry. She was lashing out at anyone - and anyone she would lash out, people automatically thought she was talking about me.
"My daughter would be like, 'Dad, I'm on my way to school, and they're talking about you on the radio'. My daughter wanted to tweet back and s**t, and I told her to take the high road."
