Orange Evolution, 18-29 May 2006, NewcastleGateshead

The line up for Orange Evolution, the North East's biggest annual music festival, has been announced.

Now in its fifth year, Orange Evolution is the first major UK music festival of the year and forms part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative's world-class programme of festivals and events for 2006. The unique ten-day urban festival features over 30 indoor gigs in six venues across NewcastleGateshead, and culminates in the ever popular massive free outdoor event on Bank Holiday Monday (29 May) when the NewcastleGateshead Quayside will be transformed into a major stage set and play host to over 20 bands.

Evolution of the Futureheads To kick start Orange Evolution 06, the highly successful North East band Futureheads (18 May) will play two unique gigs in the same day reflecting and celebrating their own personal musical evolution.

First off will be an intimate acoustic set together with Sunderland based Field Music at The Sage Gateshead. Next, the band will play a set at Newcastle's Carling Academy showcasing new material from their forthcoming album and collaborations with those who have remixed and reshaped their highly successful sound.

On Sunday 28 May world-renowned club night Shindig will stage a spectacular outdoor dance event in Baltic Square, with the iconic architecture of Gateshead Millennium Bridge, The Sage Gateshead and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art forming the backdrop for an unparalleled party location.

Bank Holiday Monday's Freevolution event (29 May) brings together a rich and diverse programme of acts from around the globe.

Following their debut appearance last year, Hard-Fi are set to return as headliners of the Innovation Stage having secured a number one album as well as a Mercury Music Prize nomination since Orange Evolution 05. One of the biggest bands in Britain today, Hard-Fi's success since their Orange Evolution appearance last year perfectly reflects the ethos of the festival of spotting and showcasing the stars of the future.

With the likes of Graham Coxon, who has had praise heaped on his new album, 'Love Travels At Illegal Speeds,' Number One band Orson, upcoming locals Field Music, Boy Kill Boy, The Go Team and Jim Noir this is the hottest line up so far in Freevolution's history.
