Friday 10th March 2006

The Isle of Skye Music Festival will take place on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th June 2006, and will once again be held at Ashaig Airstrip, Broadford on the stunning coastline of the Isle of Skye.

The event will play host to the most impressive and varied line-up of any Highland festival. Friday's bill kicks off the weekend's proceedings with a who's who of the dance world. Superstar producer Mylo will be joined by San Francisco's finest DJ Mes, a live band set from Ralph Lawson 20:20 Soundsystem, Trash DJ Errol Alkan, Denmark's WHOMADEWHO, and master mixer Justin Robertson.

Festival organisers are also delighted to today announce that Saturday's fantastically eclectic line-up will see New York's coolest, the Fun Lovin' Criminals bring their musical mayhem to the event in what will be an un-missable co-headlining slot alongside Brit award winner, KT Tunstall. Her festival appearance last year proved to be one of highlights of the weekend and KT is hugely excited to be making a return visit, recently saying 'I'm delighted to be going back to play The Isle of Skye Music Festival – any excuse to get back on that island! It'll be a riot playing with the Fun Lovin' Criminals.'

Joining Saturday's headliners this year will be the side splitting Cuban Brothers, the silkily voiced Skye Edwards, the lush harmonics of Aberfeldy, Skye's finest Celtic rockers The Peatbog Faeries and hot up and coming acts, The Upper Room and The Young Knives.

Festival organisers would like to encourage attendees to truly revel in the festival spirit and join the event's camping community. All ticket packages offer great value for money:

• Weekend tickets are fully inclusive of both on site parking and camping costs. Camping is provided onsite, however a number of campsites appear around the island, for those who would like to explore further afield.

• Day tickets include park and ride to and from the site.

• A free loop shuttle bus service will operate during the course of the festival running from the festival site to Broadford and the festival site to the Kyle of Lochalsh.

FRIDAY 16th JUNE 2006

5pm – 4am

Friday's main stage line-up is littered with the glitterati of the global dance map. A sonic celebration from some of the coolest names in dance today.

DJ Mes

San Francisco's hottest DJ / Producer and founder of Guesthouse Music, DJ Mes is set to jet in to play a storming set at The Isle of Skye Music Festival. Deriving his individual sound by drawing influences as varied as 70's soul, funk and disco and 80's hip hop and jazz, DJ Mes has found a way to meld all of his early influences into a deep, yet driving funky sound that has made him a star worldwide.

Ralph Lawson 20:20 Soundsystem - Live

Often noted as being 'Britain's best kept secret DJ', Ralph Lawson has been a regular at Fabric, Bugged Out and Home for the best part of a decade. Not satisfied with making his own music and releasing the music of new artists on his label 2020 Vision, Ralph has earned himself a significant reputation as a re-mixer, famously tampering with the work of artists as divergent as David Bowie and Felix Da Housecat. His shows with his live band are a revelation – be sure not to miss their stunning set this summer solstice.

Erol Alkan

Erol Alkan is a musical evangelist. The north London lad is hailed by many as the new Fatboy Slim, believes in the idea of a 'conveyor belt of good feeling' and has for the past five years been at the helm of the critically acclaimed Trash night at The End in London. As a producer, Alkan's musical mixing skills have been in great demand and in that past year he has remixed the work of DFA 1979, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, The Mystery Jets and fellow Skye starlet, Mylo.

You take a house DJ and make him play the drums, then add a Bowie-loving bassist who sings too and complete with an avant-garde jazz guitarist with a mean moustache. These are the main ingredients of WHOMADEWHO, the Danish trio who play a mix of no-wave, funk rock and sneaky covers. Great on record, but unbelievable live. Miss their skeleton costumed set, turned up to 11 at your peril!

Since the release of the tremendous debut 'Destroy Rock and Roll', Mylo and his band have gone on to take the dance world, and obliterate it. World wide fame, and international kudos quickly followed as did a dizzying touring schedule, culminating in a ground shaking homecoming headline slot at last year's Isle of Skye Music Festival. This year Mylo returns to drop some tunes in a DJ capacity.

Justin Robertson

As a re-mixer, Robertson has worked for New Order, Erasure, Happy Mondays and Bjork. His LP's have rendered him responsible for the wide-spread dance-rock, big beat and Brit hop sound. Having started as a DJ it is in this arena that his is truly legendary. His sets are a mix of northern soul, dub, reggae, punk, Detroit techno and minimal house. A highly diverse variety makes him one of the most interesting DJ/produce/musician on the scene.

Saturday 17th June 2006

Main Stage

Saturday's bill offers well considered line-up aimed at all tastes and ages.

Fun Lovin' Criminals

The Isle of Skye Music Festival is delighted to welcome New York's coolest funksters, as they prepare to round off the weekend's festivities! Since bursting onto the UK music scene in 1994, with the phenomenal debut 'Come Find Yourself', which spawned the classic singles, 'The Fun Lovin' Criminal', 'King of New York' and the no 1 hit single 'Scooby Snacks', to their latest offering 'Straight Up' rammed full of choice oohs, heys, guitar feedback and hip-hop beats the Fun Lovin' Criminals have kept it cool. Catch their phenomenal set and see for yourself that they still mean business! Unmissable.

KT Tunstall

A modern day Scottish superstar, KT Tunstall has had a most fantastic year after a patient wait to step into the limelight. A successor in the tradition of Carole King, and Steve Nicks, this is one raw vocal talent who deserves to revel in every minute of her new found fame, as she takes time out from her intensive touring schedule to record new material. Anyone who caught her stunning performance at last year's Isle of Skye Music Festival will more than understand why she recently scooped Best British Female at the Brits. It's a major coup for the festival to welcome her back as co-headliner.

The Cuban Brothers

The Cuban Brothers are unique. Born of the loins of seventies Havana, nurtured on a diet of soulful, sexy tunes and inspired by Cuban historical fact and mythology – their fresh approach to live entertainment whips up a frenzy at every gig. Their legendary performance combines music, which evolves with every show, riotous comedy, both physical and observational, and sensational dancing – consequently the energy at every show is phenomenal! As such, The Cuban Brothers are one of the globes most desirable live acts and have hosted both MTV and NME award ceremonies. Elton and David had them flown to a private party in France, Damien Hirst hired them for his Christmas do and Vernon Kaye booked them for his wedding, now The Isle of Skye Music Festival awaits them!,"

The Upper Room

The Upper Room are four Brighton based boys with a simple mission: to create the perfect the classic album, the finest pop songs, and steel your hearts. Singer Alex Miller is already showing the classic traits of becoming a fascinating front man, with comparisons to Ian Curtis or Morrissey easily visible. The band possess an expansive collection of pop songs with which to enthral . . . Their first single 'All Over This Town', made waves in the UK charts and having just finished a gruelling UK tour, the band are putting the finishing touches to their debut album, 'Other People's Problems' which is due out in August.

Skye Edwards

As the voice of Morcheeba, Skye sound tracked our lives on albums such as 'Big Calm' and 'Fragments of Freedom', melting hearts and soothing hearts worldwide. Her new album 'Mind How You Go' is Skye's debut album. A sublime collection of vivid songs that present Skye in a new light. Of course there is much that is familiar. The potent melodies and the cool elegance of her delivery. Catch the festival's name sake in the Saturday's most chilled set.

5-piece group Aberfeldy formed in the famous Royal Oak pub in Edinburgh, where singer songwriter Riley Briggs cut his teeth playing 4 nights a week. Their debut LP 'Young Forever', released on the legendary indie label Rough Trade received a raft of great press, as did the first single, 'Heliopolis By Night', which garnered single of the week in both the NME and the Guardian and made the indie top 20 singles chart.

The Peatbog Faeries

Based on the Isle of Skye, The Peatbog Faeries have released four albums and have played to audiences all over the world. Recent highlights have been tours in Australia and America as well as prominent festivals and gigs around the UK and Europe.

The Young Knives

The Young Knives purport a smouldering mix of energy driven complex compositions. Having spent the last year supporting the likes of The Futureheads and Supergrass, The Young Knives are ready to take their music to the next level and The Isle of Skye Music Festival can't wait to greet them. Catch them before superstardom beckons.
