Ibiza Rocks

Babyshambles & The Automatic

Head To Ibiza For More 'Monster' Manumission Gigs!

Babyshambles and The Automatic are the latest bands to join in this year's indie invasion of Ibiza. As part of this summers Ibiza Rocks, Pete Doherty & co are heading back to the beach at Bar M on 26th July for another sensational, live gig in a truly unique setting. Babyshambles were the first and only band to perform at Bar M last year and based on its success and public demand for stand-alone gigs, Bar M is now Ibiza's first dedicated live music venue and home to Ibiza Rocks.

Pete Doherty of Babyshambles said: 'We are keen fierce to come back to Ibiza and showcase all our new songs – there's going to be some Ska laced melancholy tracks in there. It's a f**king noble and praise worthy mission (to launch Ibiza Rocks and stage live indie gigs in Ibiza – an island so intertwined with dance music) and I can't wait to get back in that Manumission villa!'

As well as the stand alone Ibiza Rocks gigs at Bar M and as part of their new manifesto of change, live bands will also play a big part of the main Manumission club night. After 12 years of throwing the worlds biggest party every Monday at Privilege, Manumission have moved their main weekly club night to Fridays and the back room will play home to a different live band each week from 21st July to 22nd September. Some will be announced but Manumission are keeping in tune with their inexplicable policy of not revealing all 'big name' bookings in advance, meaning there will be an array of surprise performances along the way too!

First to be announced for Manumission is hot new band, The Automatic (who have soared into the spotlight and are currently celebrating the success of their top 5 hit single 'Monster' and debut album 'Not Accepted Anywhere.') The Automatic will perform live in the Manumission Music Box on 8th September. With a club capacity of 10'000, a fusion of theatre, erotica and performance art, world class DJ's, Manumission showgirls plus the best in new, live music, it's all set to be a monster of a gig indeed!

Last year, Ibiza Rocks launched with an almighty bang; rock bands invaded Ibiza, boundaries were blurred, perceptions were challenged and history was made! Ibiza Rocks mixed up the best of the Ibiza dance music scene with DJ Zane Lowe and cutting edge live music from some of the best new bands around including Kaiser Chiefs, Hard-Fi, Babyshambles, Futureheads, The Kooks and Maximo Park. This was an alien concept for Ibiza and dance music fans worldwide, but since this unlikely love affair between rock and dance in Ibiza began, there's been no stopping it!

Due to the huge success of Ibiza Rocks 2005, this years more extensive summer season of unique live gigs will be broadcast on Channel 4 during five half hour special programmes. Manumission's Bar M has been converted into a fully equipped live outdoor venue and will see some of the best new and established bands perform on it's beachfront stage throughout the summer. One off live performances, such as The Automatic will also happen as part of the weekly Manumission club nights, every Friday night at Privilege.

Ibiza Rocks in association with Sony Ericsson, kicked off this summer with We Are Scientists on 10th July and will run until 22nd September, with a variety of unique live performances from the likes of Kasabian, Dirty Pretty Things, Editors, The Streets (Soundsystem), The Fratellis, Babyshambles and Boy Kill Boy plus many more.

Promoter Andy McKay of Manumission said: 'A lot of people were sceptical when we launched Ibiza Rocks last year, but now it couldn't be more different! We recognised the sheer thirst for live music in Ibiza and we were the first to introduce band culture into club culture. Hardened clubbers may criticise us for re-introducing the guitar to the island, but we genuinely feel that we are helping ensure the future of the clubs in Ibiza. We are living through an exhilarating shift in youth culture and it is vital that we allow each generation to discover and re-invent dance music in a way that is relevant to them and the time they live in. Anyone who tries to impose strict rules on a youth movement is harming it. Last year, we followed club culture rules and put bands on at 4am, but due to the huge success of Ibiza Rocks, this year we have Bar M - a dedicated live music venue where bands will play full live sets at 9 or 10pm. We are breaking rules in Ibiza..and it's working!'
