Electric Gardens

A lovely new festival at the very beautiful

MOUNT EPHRAIM GARDENS,

NR CANTERBURY, KENT

August 5 & 6 2006

On the 5th and 6th of August, Electric Gardens will be hosting a brand new and intimate music festival at the beautiful Mount Ephraim Gardens in Kent.

A boutique festival with a very current musical head, an ear for a hot band, a good pair of dancing feet and – just as importantly – a taste for top flight grub, Electric Gardens brings together some of the best bands around including The Charlatans, The Automatic, Larrikin Love, The Long Blondes, Scully and The Fratellis with an impressive roster of alternative dance acts including Cassius, Caged Baby, Layo & Bushwacka and Audio Bullys. Not to mention serving up a very nice bacon sarnie.

With many festivals growing to a size that can compromise both their charm and their structure, here at Electric Gardens HQ we've chosen to plan a more intimate event. This scale provides the potential to create the event around our headline artists, the emphasis being on getting the right mix of bands and DJs, and promoting the event together and providing an all round quality festival experience.

And Electric Gardens doesn't believe in overcharging the punter like so many other festivals. Without any reductions on quality, you can have the best weekend of the year for the ridiculous price of just £20 per day (more details below).

Founded by promoter Marcus Wallis, Electric Gardens is a distinctly personal project. He says: "The name first came to me when I was walking through the gardens at this fantastic stately home near Canterbury - Mount Ephraim - and we were thinking of putting on the festival. As a massive Pink Floyd fan I remembered an event that Floyd had performed at, called the "Electric Garden" in the early 1970's in Glasgow, and, having always liked the name, decided on it there and then. And with our event being set amongst the most beautiful landscaped gardens in the heart of England, and with the emphasis firmly on live forward-thinking as well as electronic music, the name "Electric Gardens" suddenly seemed very apt."

And Reading or Chelmsford this ain't. Mount Ephraim is a family owned stately home steeped in over three hundred years of history. The house and beautifully landscaped gardens are set amongst eight hundred acres of orchard, fields and woodland. The sloping nature of the site offers a perfect natural amphitheatre to the main stage, which is further enhanced by the stunning natural backdrop www.mountephraimgardens.co.uk

And, being a perfectly-formed boutique festival, did we mention that the food doesn't take a back seat either? Pre- and post-dancing sustenance will be provided by local Kent-based company CBH (who've served the ladies and gents at British Grand Prix, Chelsea Flower Show, and the Epsom Derby no less) who are sourcing only local ingredients to provide freshly prepared dishes, including such delights as a hog roast with crackling and apple sauce, as well as their own versions of staple festival fare such as Thai Green Chicken Curry, Bangers & Mash, and stir fries.

And, finally, at Electric Gardens you can say goodbye to overpriced warm cans of lager and cheap spirits in dingy measures. The bars will be stocked with only premium spirits, top brand lager and award winning cask conditioned ale, all served to the optimum drinking temperatures and with the minimum of fuss (ie nice and cold and by friendly bar staff!)
