Busta Rhymes has spoken to MTV of his respect for Frank Ocean, following the Odd Future man's recent blog post revealing that his first love was with a man. The revelation has been widely discussed, both in the hip-hop community and in the wider music community. Russell Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings wrote his own letter of praise for Ocean, saying that his actions had "changed the game." Now, Busta Rhymes reveals that he thinks Ocean's actions are bigger than hip-hop; indicative of a shifting of attitudes around the world.
"I am an extremely huge fan of Frank Ocean. His music is impeccable to me, and as far as I'm concerned, I respect the dude completely," said Busta Rhymes. He also said "Whatever that man does in his personal space is that man's choice and that man's business." Then, looking at the issue on a wider scale, Rhymes explained "From hip-hop all the way down to the common man that walks the streets on the Earth every day, we're at a place in life where we gotta respect and accept what people choose as their path that they wanna walk in life, because ultimately you want people to respect what you choose as your path and your journey in life."
Busta had a direct message of encouragement for Frank Ocean, the Odd Future affiliate, saying "Just keep that music poppin' the way you been keepin' it brother, and you got my money."
