Former Mott The Hoople bassist Peter Overend Watts has lost his battle with throat cancer, aged 69.
The group's ex frontman Ian Hunter confirmed the sad news via Twitter on Sunday (22Jan17).
"My extremely eccentric, lovely mate - Peter Overend Watts - has left the building. Devastated," he wrote.
Watts co-founded the Buddies and the Doc Thomas Group with Mick Ralphs. The bands evolved into Mott The Hoople when Hunter joined in 1969.
He was part of the classic Mott the Hoople line-up that recorded rock hits like All The Young Dudes.
Drummer Dale Griffin died almost exactly a year ago (Jan16) after he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
