Rapper Mos Def has been ordered to increase his financial child support payments by $2,000 (GBP1,100) every month, but he insists he can't afford it.

The hip-hop/actor appeared in court on Tuesday (14FEB06) to contest the ruling, which he claims is unrealistic.

The OH NO star - real name DANTE SMITH - has three other children to support, as well as the two he fathered with estranged wife MARIA YEPES-SMITH, and cites business commitments as another financial burden.

He contends Yepes-Smith breached her promise to home school his seven and eight-year-old daughters.

Smith told Judge SARAH KRAUSS, "I'm the only person who's providing for my children."

Yepe-Smith's lawyer retaliated by arguing that a recent string of high profile contracts negated the rapper's plea of financial difficulties.

KAREN BLAUSTEIN told the New York Post, "I've been seeing him in these commercials with Bruce Willis for his new movie. I'm sure he made enough money to pay his child support."
