Gig Preview

Sunday 25th November 2007 @ Islington Academy

7pm - 11pm

Due to unprecedented demand, a second date has been added to the London leg of the 'Universal Magnetics' tour at the Islington Academy this Sunday 25th November 2007. This will be a smaller, more intimate venue than this Friday's (23rd November) sold out event at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Support will be from: Vadim & Yarah, plus special DJ guests...

Mos Def, revered as one of Brooklyn's finest musical talents, is coming to London for the first time in many years to give hip-hop fans a special treat.

Taking time out of a busy schedule Mos Def is always one to watch and this is the UK's chance to check him out. Mos started his storied career in the nineties with the New York-based Native Tongue Posse. Tied to the Universal Zulu Nation, the crew included the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, and were known for their jazzy beats and Afro centric lyrical styling's. Mos then pioneered a massive underground hip-hop explosion as one half of Black Star alongside Talib Kweli, going on to a successful solo turn that saw the release of three well-received albums.

There's been a recent buzz circulating over Mos Def's recent signing to Downtown Records (home of Gnarls Barkley), and he has just put the finishing touches on a new Spank Rock remix for the French duo Justice.
