Rocker Morrissey has cancelled all remaining dates on his U.S. tour after falling ill with a virus.

The singer scrapped concerts in New Jersey and Atlanta, Georgia last week (ends08Jun14), and returned to the stage in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday (07Jun14).

However, his condition subsequently worsened, forcing him to axe gigs in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C. this week (begs09Jun14), and now medical experts have deemed the former The Smiths frontman unable to perform the rest of his tour.

A statement posted on Morrissey's official Facebook page reads: "It is with great sadness that the remainder of the US Tour has been cancelled. The respiratory infection Morrissey contracted in Miami has worsened, and in the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted.

"Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates."

He was scheduled to make 11 more stops in Michigan, New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois until the end of June (14).

It's the second time in as many years illness has caused Morrissey to pull his U.S. tour - early last year (13) he had to axe his entire trek as he struggled with double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer, and throat condition Barrett's oesophagus after months of illness.
