Morrissey has been forced to cancel more shows on his US tour due to a continued viral infection.

After performing at a gig in Virginia, the former Smiths singer saw a throat specialist in Washington DC and was told he could not perform before July 7th at the earliest.

This means that concerts scheduled in Atlantic City and Holmdel have now been postponed.

Announcements will be made shortly regarding any possible re-arrangement of the cancelled shows.

The singer is now expected to perform again in Boston at the Bank of America Pavilion in three days' time.

Morrissey's throat problem has plagued this stage of his North American tour and has seen a number of shows postponed, including one at Madison Square Garden.

At an earlier gig in Boston the singer was taken ill after seven songs and had to postpone dates in Northampton and Philadelphia.

Morrissey is currently touring his latest album, Ringleader of the Tormentors, which followed on from his highly successful You Are the Quarry LP.

The singer found fame as the frontman of The Smiths, one of the most influential bands to come out of the UK.

His popularity in the US has been steady ever since and he resided in Los Angeles for a number of years.
