The former frontman of The Smiths was preparing to play at the city's Boulder Theater when his keyboard player Gustavo Manzur, collapsed.

According to editors at The Denver Post, the Panic singer arrived on stage 15 minutes late and told the crowd his bandmate had been taken ill.

"This is a family, we stay together, and we can’t move until we know what’s happened to him,” Morrissey reportedly said. “We’re going to sit backstage for awhile and wait to see what’s happened to him, if there’s any magical cure.”

Twenty minutes later, another member of the musician's band, guitarist Jesse Tobias told concert goers the keyboardist had not recovered and that the show was cancelled.

Bosses at the venue announced on Twitter, "Regretfully tonight's Morrissey show cancelled due to severe illness of a member of the band. Refunds available at point of purchase."

Organisers are attempting to reschedule the concert. Representatives for Morrissey did not respond to a request for comment.
