The veteran actor and longtime friend Lori MCCreary appeared at a Produced By Conference event in Los Angeles on Saturday (04Jun16) to discuss their Revelations Entertainment company, and he raised eyebrows when he recalled his first meeting with the former technology entrepreneur and commented on her wardrobe.

"She had on a dress cut to here," he remembered, as he motioned towards his thigh. "She wants to be thought of as serious, but you can't get away from the short dresses."

The panel moderator, producer Mark Gordon, questioned whether the Shawshank Redemption star's comments would be considered sexist and misogynistic, to which Morgan admitted, "Sexist? Yeah, but I'm not misogynistic."

The brief exchange was picked up by multiple news outlets, prompting feminists to take aim at the actor, but Freeman was oblivious to the drama until he was quizzed about the uproar during an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Today on Wednesday (08Jun16).

"I said something controversial?" he wondered aloud, when co-host Savannah Guthrie broached the subject.

"Listen, we had a producers' conference, 90 minutes, talking about our company, Revelations Entertainment, our 20 years together as business partners, and so it was something I just said in jest about when I first met her," Freeman claimed. "It was more than 20 years ago. How's that news?"

Brushing off what he insists is not a scandal, he continued, "I don't think I'm misunderstood, people just grab something, whatever it is you can talk about, and say, 'Oh, listen to what so and so said!'"
