The stars of veteran comedy troupe Monty Python were handed a lifetime achievement prize at the British Comedy Awards in London on Tuesday night (16Dec14).

The funnymen, including John Cleese and Michael Palin, landed the prestigious British Comedy Academy Lifetime Achievement Award during the ceremony in Wembley, north London.

Other winners included U.S. sitcom Modern Family, which was named Best International Comedy Programme, and British movie The Inbetweeners 2, which earned the Best Comedy Film title.

Funnyman Harry Enfield landed the Best Tv Comedy Actor prize and The IT Crowd's Katherine Parkinson took the female equivalent.

Parkinson's former Tv co-star Chris O'Dowd won Best Sitcom for his show Moone Boy, and another The IT Crowd graduate Matt Berry won Best New Comedy for Toast of London.

Jack Whitehall was named King Of Comedy for the third consecutive year.
