Monty Python star John Cleese has topped a new poll to find the most influential British comedian of all time.

The 75-year-old actor has beaten out Only Fools And Horses' Sir David Jason to claim the title, while Blackadder and Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson places third in the survey, commissioned by bosses at U.K. classic comedy channel Gold.

Jason's late Open All Hours co-star Ronnie Barker and Ricky Gervais round out the top five, while Dawn French, the late Rik Mayall and Steve Coogan feature in the top 10.

The news comes during a good week for Cleese - he and his Monty Python pals landed two British Comedy Award nominations for their reunion shows on Monday (10Nov14), and on Tuesday (11Nov14) it was revealed the comedy troupe is planning to meet up in December (14) to discuss how to capitalise on the success of its recent London gigs.
