The Pretty in Pink star will play Aurora Greenway in the stageshow, which will be directed by Michael Parva. Shirley MACLaine won an Academy Award for the role in the 1983 film, which also took home an Oscar for Best Picture. Debra Winger, Jack Nicholson, Danny Devito, Jeff Daniels, and John Lithgow also appeared in the film.

The play will be based on the movie, about the love/hate relationship between a mother and daughter.

"This funny and touching story about love captures the delicate, and sometimes fractured, bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and lovers both old and new," a production note reads.

Ringwald has starred in several stage productions including Cabaret, Tick, Tick...Boom!, and Enchanted April.

The show is slated to begin its run on 29 October (16) at 59E59 Theaters Off-Broadway.
