Rockers Mogwai and King Creosote & Jon Hopkins are among the acts competing to have their records named Scottish Album of the Year (Say).
Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat, Twin Atlantic, Found and Mungo's Hi-Fi are also in the running for the inaugural prize - billed as the Scottish version of the U.K.'s prestigious Mercury Music Prize.
The winning act will receive $32,000 (£20,000) from the Scottish Music Industry Association (Smia).
Mogwai star Stuart Braithwaite says, "There is an abundance of great music being produced in Scotland every year and I hope that this new award helps us celebrate it and share it."
The final winner, to be selected by a panel of 10 judges, will be announced at a ceremony in June (12).
