Missy Elliott has signed up as the spokeswoman for an American domestic abuse charity because she wants to help kids with violent parents.

The rapper admits she can sympathise with kids from troubled homes - because she was one - and that has led to her helping charity organisation BREAK THE CYCLE.

She says, "My father used to batter my mother like crazy, and when I went through it I didn't have nobody.

"I wanted to help other kids in that situation and do something I could relate to."
