A songwriting major at Belmont University in Tennessee has been named the first recipient of Miranda Lambert's new scholarship.
The star recently created the $40,000 (GBP29,800) Women Creators’ Scholarship at the Nashville school to honour a female student with dreams of making it big in music, and Anna Vaus will be the very first beneficiary.
"I am so thankful and honored to have been chosen as the first recipient of the Miranda Lambert Women Creators’ Fund," the student wrote in a press release, "because the tide is changing for all of the young women in this industry. I have so much hope for women in country music because of the path that Miranda and so many awesome people are currently fighting to pave for us."
Reports suggest Miranda chose Vaus from six finalists after reviewing an online application and listening to an original song the student submitted.
