Miramax movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is trying to be philosophical after his pet project Cold Mountain was largely snubbed by the OSCARS - even though he admits to being "disappointed".

The hard-hitting film producer had high hopes for the ANTHONY MINGHELLA-directed picture, and the historical epic had been tipped by many critics to be one of the big winners at next month's (28FEB04) ACADEMY AWARDS.

However, the film failed to compete in any of the major categories - except Jude Law's nod in the Best Actor category.

Weinstein reasons, "Yes, I'm disappointed. But the shortened Academy season and the screener controversy hurt us and other movies that were released in December (03), like Big Fish and Something's Gotta Give.

"Plus there were five, six other great movies, and we started to lose momentum after the DIRECTORS GUILD nominations."

"But hey, we've had such good luck in other years, and we're a junior partner on Master And Commander as well as owning a piece of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING."
