Country star Mindy McCready wept as she sat down to answer questions about her lover's apparent suicide for a U.S. Tv interview and denied having anything to do with his death.
Music producer David Wilson, the father of MCCready's nine-month-old son Zayne, died on 13 January (13) from a gunshot wound at their home in Arkansas.
MCCready has opened up about the tragedy in an emotional interview for U.S. news show Dateline, and broke down in tears as she recalled how she held Wilson in her arms as he died on the front porch of their house.
She tells host Andrea Canning, "I just started screaming and ringing 911. I laid down next to him and pleaded with him not to die... He was responding... with sounds."
An investigation into his death is still ongoing, but MCCready vehemently denied rumours suggesting she was somehow responsible when Canning broached the subject, responding, "Oh my God, no. Oh my God, no. He was my life. We were each other's life."
When pushed to answer if she believed Wilson was murdered, she insisted, "I don't know."
MCCready added, "I have never gone through anything this painful. He didn't just touch my heart, he touched my soul. He was my soulmate."
The interview follows reports suggesting the singer did not attend a memorial for her late lover last week (19Jan13). The full interview will air in the U.S. on Tuesday night (29Jan13).
