A 1928 movie poster featuring Mickey Mouse sold for more than $100,000 (£62,500) at a U.S. auction on Thursday (29Nov12).

The advertisement, believed to be one of the earliest surviving Mickey Mouse posters, was snapped up by an unidentified bidder for $101,575 (£63,480) when it went under the hammer at the Heritage Auctions sale in Dallas, Texas.

The poster, created by Walt Disney, depicts Mickey smiling and waving, while a tagline calls the animated icon "The World's Funniest Cartoon Character".

Grey Smith, director of movie poster auctions at Heritage Auctions, called the item "an important piece of pop culture treasure".
