Reports suggest the rocker was killed after being struck by a train on Saturday night (18Jul15).

Black replaced Mick Ronson in David Bowie's one-time backing band before co-founding Goldie.

Goldie drummer Tom Knowles tells Britain's Newcastle Chronicle newspaper, "It was only two weeks ago that I was watching him play. I can't believe he's gone. Dave was a truly wonderful guitar player and, you will find, was an inspiration to so many. We have lost something very special."

As a member of Goldie, Black released three albums and enjoyed top 10 success in the U.K. with Making Up Again in 1978. The group split in 1980 and Black joined a reworked Spiders From Mars before embarking on a solo career.
