Moviemaker-turned-food critic Michael Winner has been banned from eating red meat after he was hospitalised with suspected E. coli poisoning earlier this month (Oct11).
The Death Wish director collapsed and was taken to a medical centre in London after eating barely-cooked steak tartare at home four nights in a row.
He was released after several days of treatment but has been ordered to stick to a diet rich in fish, eggs, pasta and cereal - and avoid meals containing red meat.
Restaurant reviewer Winner, who almost died in 2007 after contracting a virus from eating oysters on holiday in Barbados, jokes, "It could be that the food's biting back after all the things I've said about it."
