The Hollywood company's Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi will finance and produce the biopic about the Italian businessman, based on a book written by his son Tonino.

Lamborghini - The Legend will shoot in Italy over the summer (16) and will centre upon the tycoon's early career as a tractor and military vehicle manufacturer to the dizzying heights of his sports cars, which remain among the very best ever built.

Announcing the film news on Tuesday (29Dec15), Iervolino said, "I am very proud to produce a film about an iconic man who had such a profound impact around the world, and left a legacy that lives on in such strong spirit.

"Ferruccio Lamborghini was a pioneering businessman who brought honour to Italy and helped raise worldwide awareness for not just cars, but all products made in Italy. He started from scratch, relying only on his great passion and an unbridled desire to succeed in life - a desire he fulfilled."

The Lamborghini movie isn't the only one about an Italian sports car mogul underway - reports suggest Christian Bale is in the driving seat for a film about late Ferrari boss Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann's new film. That film will also go before the cameras next summer (16).

Ferrari died in 1988 after devoting his life to designing and building sports cars. A former Alfa Romeo driver in the 1920s, he became a motor racing icon.
