Actor Michael Douglas was happy to take a long break from acting, because is meant he could enjoy his young children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and focus on his humanitarian work.

The veteran actor, 61, wanted to spend quality time with his family and focus on campaigning for arms reduction around the world.

He says, "I've taken off about three years. I've got a new family with Catherine. If you're going to have new kids at my age, why not enjoy them?"

The WALL STREET star received the prestigious Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Sunday (29JAN06) for "outstanding excellence in the field of culture and using his art to reach out to other cultures."

The event was also attended by Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and musicians Bono and Peter Gabriel.

He adds, "It's an impressive group, to say the least, that covers a broad spectrum. It's a learning experience for me. I hope they will recognize as they have from Bono's efforts and others, that many of us on the entertainment side can talk about the issues.
