The rappers wanted to use the track for West's song Never Let Me Down on his breakout College Dropout album, and the 63-year-old crooner reveals he agreed after reading the lyrics to the song - but he wasn't hip to who the hip hop stars were, and had to ask his daughters for a reference.
"They request a license and basically they use your music, but they could be writing any lyrics, so I wasn't sure what the songs were about and I said, 'Can I read the lyrics?'" Bolton told U.S. chat show The Talk on Tuesday (24Jan17). "It was a really positive statement.
"My daughters actually told me who they were, so that's how in touch I was. They were like rolling their eyes: 'They're like the biggest rappers in the business, dad'."
