The Out of Africa star has been selected as next year's recipient of the coveted trophy by officials at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in recognition of her lifetime achievements and contributions to showbusiness.

Streep will be presented with the accolade at the 8 January (17) ceremony, which will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Previous winners include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, George Clooney, and 2016 honouree Denzel Washington.

Streep could find herself taking home more than just the Cecil B. DeMille Award at next year's (17) prizegiving, as she is also in the running to land a nomination for her role as socialite-turned-opera singer Florence Foster Jenkins.
