Country icon Merle Haggard thanked the Georgia medical staff who cured him of double-pneumonia in January (12) during a concert in the state on Wednesday (25Apr12).
The Okie from Muskogee singer fell ill with the potentially-deadly lung condition at the start of the year (12) and was admitted to a medical centre in MACon.
He then scrapped a string of live dates after doctors discovered he was also suffering from three stomach ulcers, polyps in his colon and diverticulitis of the oesophagus.
The 75 year old was discharged after a few weeks, and showed off his full recovery when he returned to the state on Wednesday to perform at the City Auditorium.
Taking the stage, the star joked, "I wound up here in the hospital several days with you. I forgot how many, they had me under some really good dope. MACon's got the best dope in the hospital I've ever seen. I thought I'd died and gone to Jamaica."
Haggard also gave thanks to those who saved his life, adding, "There's about 75 people here from the hospital and I want to thank you publicly for the kind of treatment you gave Merle Haggard. It was absolutely wonderful."
