The Bridesmaids actress played Sookie St. James, the best friend of Lauren Graham's lead character, for all seven seasons of the show from 2000 to 2007. But when news of the revival was announced in January (16), Melissa revealed she hadn't been asked to take part. However, show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino later managed to schedule Melissa in to shoot some scenes, and the star admits she became very nostalgic when she returned to the Stars Hollow set earlier this month (Apr16).

"I got so sentimental,” she told "I stopped by about two weeks ago, I think, and just saw the sets and saw everybody there. It kind of felt like we didn't skip a beat."

"It was a little overwhelming," she confessed. "It was really cool. It just felt like the absolute right thing to do."

She added that she was amazed how many people have become fans of the show since the initial run finished.

Lauren is also returning alongside onscreen daughter Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson, plus supporting cast members including Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, and Matt Czuchry.

Melissa revealed she was reprising her role during an interview on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' U.S. chat show in April (16) after finding a way to work around her busy film work.

"There was a whole thing," she said. "And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I’m gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing."

The air date for the four 90-minute episodes has not yet been announced.
