Melissa Gilbert was rushed to hospital after her performance on Dancing with the Stars, on Monday (April 9, 2012). She was absent from last night's elimination show, which caused many to ponder whether the Little House on the Prairie star will be able to continue in the contest. The host of the show, Tom Bergeron updated viewers on her condition, saying "On her doctor's advice she is taking a rest day and if they get through tonight she'll be able to compete going forward."
The 47 year old actress updated her fans on her progress, as well, the Daily Mail reports, telling them "I'm alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of." The incident happened when she banged her head on the floor during a routine. At the time, she got up and carried on but later realized that the force of the blow had been significant and she was rushed to hospital. She thanked her fellow competitor Gavin Degraw, who carried her out of the studio when she was injured. She also expressed her gratitude to her dance partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, calling him her "champion."
What makes the incident worse is that Melissa underwent spinal surgery less than two years ago, so doubt the whiplash will be of added concern to her. Though the suggestion seems to be that she will continue in the process, her future on Dwts is not 100 per cent clear.
