Singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge credits her breast cancer battle 10 years ago for inspiring her to turn her lifestyle around and clean up her act.
The Come to My Window hitmaker underwent chemotherapy and successfully beat the disease, but she admits the health struggle was a blessing in disguise - because without the threat to her life, she wouldn't have adopted a healthy, vegan-heavy diet and cut her booze intake.
Her wife, Linda Wallem, explains to People magazine, "She had a huge awakening and tackled the old thought of what cancer meant. It was devastating then, but we laugh about it now, that it was the best thing that ever happened. It actually ensured a longer, healthier life."
Etheridge adds, "I know my cancer is not coming back. I feel better than I've ever felt."
The singer wed Wallem in May (14).
