Melanie Chisholm has criticised singers Lady GaGa and Katy Perry for their overtly sexual performances, insisting their raunchy routines set a bad example for young fans.
Chisholm, who shot to fame as a member of the Spice Girls, admits she's stunned by the current crop of chart-toppers and their provocative images.
And the British star is convinced it's possible for a female singer to be successful without flaunting too much flesh.
She says, "It sends the wrong message to teenage girls. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Britney Spears have great voices and don't need to take their clothes off. Young fans can be impressionable. Sometimes people go a little too far.
"Sex has always been sold. It seems that now it has become very prevalent in pop music."
