Melanie Chisholm's bid for comeback success has hit a major obstacle - she's been forced to cancel a week of tour dates through illness.

The former SPICE GIRL faces massive financial losses if her third album BEAUTIFUL INTENTIONS fails to sell big, because she funded the record herself, and was relying on her live shows to build up her fanbase.

However, Chisholm has had to axe a series of concerts - including last night's (27APR05) Glasgow, Scotland, show - after failing sick with "a severe case of the flu".

A statement reads, "Melanie's throat infection has taken a turn for the worse and (she) has been instructed by her doctor to postpone all gigs planned for this week.

"If her condition improves the next gig she will play is Oxford, England on Monday, 2 May."
