Mel Gibson has threatened to sue the screenwriter Jo Eszterhas for invasion of privacy after his son taped one of Gibson's foul-mouthed rants, which has now been made public by The Wrap. The feud began when Gibson rejected a script that Esterhaz had written for The MACcabees, telling the story of the famous 2nd Century BC Jewish revolt. Eszterhas accused Mel Gibson of anti-semitic behaviour whilst they were working on the script and also revealed that he had threatened to kill his former partner, Oksana Grigorieva.
Eszterhas write a letter to Gibson, accusing him of anti-semitism and unreasonable, unruly behaviour. The letter was also published on The Wrap's website. Gibson accused Eszterhas of fabricating lies, saying that it was merely a case of sour grapes and questioned the validity of Eszterhas's story. Joe went on to claim that he had proof of Mel's unruly rantings and in a recent development in the public battle between them, gave The Wrap permission to post a copy of the tape on their site. The recording features Mel screaming loudly, "Why don't I have a first draft of "The "MACcabees"? What the f*ck have you been doing?... I go to work, you're getting paid, I'm not! Sh*t! I am earning money for a filthy little c*cksucker who takes advantage of me! Just like every motherf*cker! So hurry the f*ck up!"
The Mad Max actor claims that the recording is a violation of his rights, The Sun reports. He has said that it is a "basic human right" not to be recorded in your own home and is reportedly "furious" that the tape has been released.
