Mel Gibson has taken a hit in the property market after offloading his Malibu, California mansion for $5.2 million (£3.2 million) less than his original asking price.

The Braveheart star and his ex-wife Robyn initially listed the six bedroom home for $14.5 million (£9 million) in 2010, but the compound, which also features a pool, a gym and three guesthouses, failed to attract interest and they were forced to lower the price a year later to $12.75 million (£7.97 million).

The pad remained on the market until recently, when reality Tv mogul Mike Fleiss, the creator of dating show The Bachelor, successfully put in an offer for $9.3 million (£5.8 million), reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Gibsons purchased the land from rocker Rick Springfield in 1989 for almost $3 million (£1.88 million).
