Mel B's mother is desperate to heal their rift.
Andrea Brown hasn't spoken to her daughter for six years after disapproving of her marriage to film producer Stephen Belafonte, but she's said to be keen to reconnect now the former Spice Girls star is returning to live in the UK with her family to work on 'The X Factor'.
A family friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''Andrea is scarred by what has happened with Mel. They used to be so close.
''She is desperate to be part of her life again and in the last few days and weeks she has been trying to reach her on Twitter.''
Mel became estranged from Andrea, her father Martin and her sister Danielle in 2008 when she and Stephen - who has a history of domestic abuse - renewed their wedding vows, as they claim he's taken her away from them.
Mel has been living in Australia with her husband, their two-year-old daughter Madison and her other daughters Phoenix, 15, and Angel Iris, 7, from previous relationships, but Andrea is hopeful they can finally heal their long-standing rift now she is back in Britain.
The source added: ''So far Mel hasn't replied, but Andrea is hoping that now she is in the UK then she might relent and finally let her back in her life.''
