Meg Ryan will make her directorial debut when she gets behind the camera for the forthcoming comedy-drama 'Into the Beautiful', reports the UK's Guardian newspaper. 49-year-old Ryan will direct a script written by Anne Meredith and Wendy Finerman will act as producer.
Meg Ryan follows in the footsteps of Drew Barrymore and Jodie Foster, who have also turned their hands to directing in recent years. Although Ryan is still considered to be a major figure in Hollywood, her last notable screen appearance came when she starred in 'The Women' back in 2008. 50-year-old Finerman, whose credits include 'The Devil Wears Prada', says Meg is the best person for the job, noting, "I think this is the perfect project for Meg to bring to life. She's poignant and funny and heartfelt". Ryan is not expected to act in the film but further casting details are not yet known. The comedy drama has been likened to the 1980's movie 'The Big Chill'.
Meg Ryan hit the headlines earlier this year when it was revealed that she was dating the American rocker John Mellencamp. The singer-songwriter filed for divorce from his wife of 18 years in December 2010.
