Rapper Meek Mill is getting into the Thanksgiving holiday spirit by serving up free turkeys to those in need in his native Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Ambition hitmaker is aiming to hand out enough food to feed nearly 600 families on the U.S. holiday on Thursday (28Nov13) as part of his A Dreamchaser's Thanksgiving, which he is planning to turn into an annual community event.
He says, "I'm blessed to be in a position where I can make sure that as many people as possible have a meal on Thanksgiving, so that they can be with their loved ones to enjoy the holiday."
Mill will be joined by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter at the three giveaways, which have been scheduled for Tuesday (26Nov13) and Wednesday (27Nov13) and will take place in connection with local organisations Youth Working Together, Town Watch and Unity in the Community.
Praising the star for his generosity, Mayor Nutter states: "I applaud Meek Mill for taking the initiative to give back to his home town. Gathering together with family and friends around a shared meal is one of the most important aspects of the holiday season. It is important to give thanks for all that we have, and I am proud that one of Philadelphia's own is donating his time and resources to make sure families in our city can do just that."
