Chewbacca will be making a special appearance on the GLEE Christmas episode, 'Extraordinary Merry Christmas', airing on December 13, 2011. The festive instalment also represents the directorial debut of Matthew Morrison and the actor recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the shoot.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Morrison revealed the festive offering would be a combination of the Star Wars Holiday Special and the JUDY GARLAND Christmas specials, saying, "We called up George Lucas, and he gave us Chewbacca. There's only one guy who can officially be Chewbacca, and he lives in Northern California. They flew him in. ... We had Chewbacca for the day. It was just great. We were taking pictures with him. ... He's been doing it for 12 years". Glee cast member Chris Colfer had previously provided proof of Chewbacca's appearance in the episode, tweeting a picture of himself and the famous Wookie hugging with the caption, "I officially have my Christmas Card!!!". The announcement inevitably threw up questions about his exact role, but Morrison disappointed those who were ready to hear Chewbacca's signing voice, confirming he would not be performing.

The Star Wars Holiday Special aired only once back in November 1978, mixing the Stars Wars adventure with festive jingles. Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) famously performed a version of John Williams classic Star Wars theme tune.
