Matt Damon is in talks for animal drama film 'We Bought a Zoo'.

The actor - best known for the role of Jason Bourne in the 'Bourne' action films - would play the lead role in the big screen-adaptation of the book by British journalist Benjamin Mee.

The book tells the true life tale of Benjamin, who decided to put his life savings into buying a zoo, while at the same time learning his wife has terminal brain cancer.

'Vanilla Sky' director Cameron Crowe is directing the project, and he has also rewritten The Script originally penned by 'The Devil Wears Prada' screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

Producing the film will be Julie Yorn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'We Bought a Zoo' has a tentative release date of December 2011.

Oscar-winning Damon's latest movie 'Green Zone' was a disappointment at the box office, taking $93 million internationally, despite a production budget of $100 million.

He has a number of movies due for release this year, including drama 'Margaret' with Anna Paquin and sci-fi romance 'The Adjustment Bureau' alongside Emily Blunt.
