Hip-hop mogul Master P made a surprise appearance at California's Coachella music festival on Saturday (21Apr12) by joining rap newcomer A$Ap Rocky onstage for a tribute to slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
The unexpected cameo by the veteran rapper and his son Romeo sent fans into a frenzy, but the show turned serious for a moment as they remembered the African-American student, who was gunned down by Neighbourhood Watch volunteer George Zimmerman in February (12).
A$ap Rocky told the crowd, "Yo, check this out... Something real important. You know, there was a murder with the case of Trayvon Martin recently (sic), and me and P wanted to dedicate something to him."
Master P then asked the audience to "put one hand up in the air" as he dedicated his song I Miss My Homies to Martin and a slew of late celebrities, including Whitney Houston, rappers Pimp C and Big L, and Tupac Shakur, who was brought back from the dead as a hologram for an eerie 'performance' with festival headliners Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.
Zimmerman claims he approached Martin after he spotted him acting suspiciously while walking through his gated community.
He has since been charged with second-degree murder, although Zimmerman alleges he shot the teenager during a scuffle. He was released on $150,000 (£93,750) bail at the weekend (22Apr12).
