US TV veteran Mary Tyler Moore joined forces with crime-fighting cat FRED in New York City on Saturday (08JUL06) in a bid to end animal euthanasia. The Ordinary People star posed for photos with Fred, a former stray who became famous in February (06) for going undercover to help cops nab an allegedly bogus veterinarian in Brooklyn. The unlikely pair were also accompanied by Broadway actress Bernadette Peters at the Theatre District's Shubert Alley where hundreds of people came to provide loving homes for abandoned cats and dogs. Peters says, "This is Mary's and my passion. to make New York a no-kill-city. Since 2003, euthanasia has gone done 40 per cent. Hopefully, in four more years, euthanasia will be totally eradicated."
