Mary Portas, the British fashion consultant turned television star, has dismissed the women in Prime Minister David Cameron's cabinet as a poorly dressed "ugly bunch". Ms Portas, an adviser to the prime minister, claims she can hardly bear to look at the women when visiting No.10.
Speaking to Heat Magazine, Mary explained, "They do dress up for my meetings, but I just want to go.please no, not that necklace, not that skirt". The fashion guru is looking into the decline of the British High Street - she is due to present her findings this autumn. However, since working with the government, Portas has been struck by the dismal sartorial choices of some of the PM's top female ministers, saying, "If I were PM, I'd restyle all those women, I mean, the female cabinet, what an ugly bunch". She drew a comparison with French women, saying, "They're like, wow, aren't they? What do we have? I'd say let's just put a bit of sex and glamour in there". Female cabinet ministers include the Home Secretary Theresa May, Conservative Party Chairman Baroness Warsi, the Environmental Secretary Caroline Spelman and Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan.
Portas, who was spotted entering Downing Street on Tuesday morning (11th October 2011) is currently appearing on the new Channel 4 series 'Mary Queen of Frocks', which documents the launch of her own clothes store in House of Fraser branches.
