The No More Drama singer filed documents to end her 12-year marriage with her husband/business manager in July (16) and tried to block any request for spousal support, but Isaacs filed his own paperwork demanding money.

As she discussed her new single Thick of It on U.K. talk show Loose Women on Tuesday (01Nov16) and how it describes her current situation, she admitted the divorce battle has turned Isaacs into somebody she doesn't recognise.

"I'm in the thick of it. I'm in the middle of a divorce that's everywhere (in the news)," she said. "It's just how hard life is. It's the pain, it's the lawyers, it's the this, it's the that... Not even knowing someone that you thought you knew for years is horrible."

Despite the messy divorce, the 45-year-old insists her music and her fans have been giving her hope and support to carry on during the difficult time.

"There's hope in it as well, because I have to keep the joy so I can live and survive. I can't just die with all the sadness, that's why I'm here because I kept my joy. In spite of my pain and crying and releasing everything onstage to my fans and us healing together, I kept my joy."

After her divorce was reported, a representative for Mary, who is currently on a joint tour with Maxwell, told People magazine the R&B singer was "saddened" to confirm the news and thanked fans for the support "through this very difficult emotional time."

In October (16), father of three Isaacs asked a judge to award him temporary spousal support of almost $130,000 (£106,000)-a-month - which includes sums to support his parents and children from a previous relationship - from his ex so he can continue live life as he did when they were married.

He claimed he had no money as she fired him as her manager shortly before their divorce and is also asking for Mary to cover his legal fees, according to
